Unity Multi-Layer Filters Cutaway

True filtration in depth, to clean the domestic and drinking water supply for your building

Unity Cutaway

Unity MultiLayer filters work so well because they filter in the media, not on it. This means that they do not develop increased pressure loss. As any flow path fills with dirt, the water finds other paths. The paths do not clog. By contrast, any mesh or screen cartridge filter is dependent upon water finding its way through a single layer of holes. If any hole clogs with a particle, it is not available for further flow until it is backwashed. But even worse, these filters have only a single layer of holes, if any dirt passes through a hole or is forced through it, there is nothing downstream to catch it. The sediment gets into the finished water and is seen by the residents as dirt or cloudiness.

The Multilayer filter is different. Each layer of media is finer than the one above it. That means that the largest particles are removed in the first layer. Only those which pass through it are filtered in the 2nd layer, and only those very tiny particles which pass through that are filtered in the finest layer. None of the layers clog, and the filter cannot unload because there is always the third layer to seal it off and trap any dirt which passes through the upper layers. Occasional backwash is all that is necessary to keep the MultiLayer filter functioning perfectly.

Backwash normally takes place once per week and uses about 1.7% of total throughput. However, for ecological reasons, during water shortages (or in areas of the country where water is in extremely short supply), water saving controls can be installed which can extend the backwash cycle from once a day to once every 99 days depending upon total dirt load. This can reduce backwash frequency from 52 times a year to 12 times or less per year. The controls will make that determination automatically.

We have found that operating on New York City water the Unity MultiLayer filters remove about 2/3 of the chlorine, all the sediment down to 10 microns in size, and about 1/2 of particles between 4 and 10 microns; because of the intimate contact between the media and the water, about 1/2 of the dissolved iron and manganese are also removed. This equates to 99.99% filtration efficiency, automatically, silently and continuously.

The filtered water going into the building is noticeably cleaner than unfiltered water, at any time of day and any time of year.
